What are the dates of the festival?

The festival runs for 9 days, from Saturday, October 17 through to Sunday, October 25, 2009.

Where are the venues?
A
Venues : The festival takes place at the main venue in Roppongi Hills (Minato City, Tokyo). The other events co-hosted by Tokyo International Film Festival will be held in various locations throughout Tokyo metropolitan area.

What kind of films will be shown?
A

Tokyo International Film Festival screens approximately 270 films chosen from the following 6 Sections of the Main Program and hold wide variety of events.

  1. Competition
    The screening of excellent films carefully selected from 743 entries submitted from participants of 81countries and regions.
  2. Special Screenings
    The screening of highly entertaining films that have yet to be theatrically released in Japan, which introduces irresistible lineup of newsworthy films.
  3. Winds of Asia-Middle East
    The special screening that anticipates new trends in Asian culture: and features the best films produced in countries and regions of the Asian Territory.
  4. Japanese Eyes
    The section focuses on the diverse aspects of the Japanese cinema scenes by screening the most recent films selected from various perspectives.
  5. WORLD CINEMA
    The section makes selective screenings of Japanese Premiere Screenings of European and North American films which received great appraisals from the worlds film festivals.
  6. natural TIFF supported by TOYOTA
    Since 21st edition of Tokyo International Film Festival, the newly launched section screens films that brings attention to the coexistence of men and nature.

Do the films screened at the festival have subtitles?
A
As a general rule, all the films will be shown with English or Japanese subtitles or both. In case of any changes, details will be updated on this website.

How can I purchase the tickets?
A

Advanced tickets will go on sale starting Saturday, October 3.

Purchasing tickets in Japan
The tickets will be available for purchase at t-pia and l-ticke from 10:00 on the opening day. The ticket purchase can be made by internet, telephone, Ticket Agency (Playguide) and convenience stores. Please note that purchase can only be made by Japanese.

Ticket purchase from abroad.
Ticket can only be purchased in Japan. Please purchase the tickets at Ticket Pia or Lawson Ticket upon your arrival in Japan. Purchasing through internet and by telephone is only available in Japanese. For further details, please click the tab of "Ticket" and refer to the page titled Purchase Procedures for Advance Tickets.

Are there any other ways to purchase the tickets?

Tickets are available at the TOHO Cinemas Roppongi Hills boxoffice during the film festival.
All tickets up to shows on closing day are available at the boxoffice. (For details please refer to Purchase Procedures for Advance Tickets 4)

Are Walk-up tickets available after the Advance tickets have sold out?
A
As a general rule, tickets will be available at the door in case the advanced tickets are sold out. Please inquire each theater on how to purchase the tickets at the boxoffice.

How can I attend the festival as a press reporter?
A
Please click the tab "For Press" and complete the applications for press ID accreditations.

How can I run the film stills and photos during the festival?
A
We offer materials needed for the press will be provided via the internet download service. Please sign up for Image.net.
Q
Any dress code required for the press covering the events?
A
Opening Ceremony, Green Carpet events and Closing Ceremony are designated with a dress code and formal or semi-formal dress are required.
* No jeans will be allowed.

Do you have a press office for distributing the coverage?
A
Press center equipped with internet and fax is located on the 3rd floor of Roppongi Hills Mori Tower. Access to Mori Tower can be found in the web page entitled "Roppongi Hills." To find the page, please pull down the tab "For Visitors".

Do you have any ID passes other than Press IDs?
A
ID passes for the individual guests from the film festival and the film companies will be issued separately. For more details, please go to the web page entitled "For Guests."
