[Synopsis]
Set in the Egypt amid the poverty, death and suffering caused by the World War II, Youssef Chahine directed this drama centered on the story of teenage boy named Yehia, who is fascinated with the glamour of Hollywood movies and chooses to escape into a rich fantasy world to free him self from the strain of war. No stranger
to challenging conventions and taboos, Youssef Chahine also features an interfaith romance between a Jewish woman and a Muslim activist, and a homosexual relationship between Yehias’s wealthy uncle and a gay soldier from England in this first chapter of Alexandria Tetralogy.
